The Barra MacNeils to perform June 12th at deCoste Centre

From Behind the Lights
Thanks John for 30 Great Years at the deCoste

Over the past 30 years the deCoste Centre in Pictou has presented over 2,000 shows. The list is long and diverse, ranging from magicians to international headliners.

John Meir has steered the ship practically since the beginning, and his creative vision has truly made a profound impact on a generation of arts consumers in Northeastern Nova Scotia. Over the years John’s many roles have ranged from the daily operations of the Centre to booking the talent and appearing around town as a pirate to meet tourists and promote the Centre’s happenings. For many artists, he has done so much more than booking them to play the deCoste. He has coached artists like Terry Kelly, the Barra MacNeils and of course Dave Gunning through the early hurdles in their careers. Most show nights John spent operating the lighting console, and thus the name for the shows.

To build a show in John’s honor, we reached out to artists who have performed over the last couple decades. We got such a strong response from artists, that a second show has been created.

The Barra MacNeils will perform on June 12.

These shows are must attends, marking a chaper in the history for the arts in Pictou County and surrounding Counties. Ticket prices are $ 40 for each show, or $65 for a double ticket, covering both nights.

Tickets are available by dropping by the deCoste Centre Box Office or purchasing online at www.decostecentre.ca.
